Uganda Screen 16 Robusta coffee represents a medium-sized grade (16/64 inches, ~6.3 mm), above the standard Screen 15 but below premium Screen 17/18, sourced from Coffea canephora varietals grown at 900-1,500m in Uganda’s central and western regions like Buganda and Bunyoro, in fertile volcanic soils. Uganda, the world’s second-largest Robusta producer (over 80% of its coffee output), emphasizes natural or semi-washed processing: cherries are sun-dried whole for 10-21 days, enhancing earthy depth while minimizing defects.
This grade offers a robust, full-bodied cup with low acidity, bold flavors of dark chocolate, roasted nuts, woody earth, and subtle caramel or spice. A woody, lingering finish adds complexity, ideal for espresso blends or French roast. Scoring 82-84 SCA, Screen 16 Robusta provides reliable quality for commercial use, supporting Uganda’s 1.9 million smallholders through sustainable exports.
