Kenya’s very small beans, often graded as C or lower (screen size below 15/64 inches, ~6 mm), are the smallest in the country’s classification system. Sourced from SL28/SL34 varietals in highland regions (1,500-2,000m) with volcanic soils, these beans undergo washed processing—depulping, 12-36 hour fermentation, and sun-drying. Due to their size and potential defects, they’re considered lower quality, scoring below 84 SCA. The cup offers mild acidity with faint citrus, berry, or tea-like notes and a thin body. Typically used in blends or low-cost brews, these beans provide a subtle taste of Kenya’s vibrant profile at an economical price.
