Kenya MH/ML (Mbuni Heavy/Light) refers to lower-grade, natural-processed coffee, distinct from Kenya’s typical washed coffees. Mbuni beans, often from SL28/SL34 varietals grown at 1,500-2,000m in volcanic highlands, are sun-dried with the cherry intact, skipping wet-mill depulping and fermentation. MH (Heavy) includes denser, larger beans, while ML (Light) comprises smaller, less dense ones, both sorted by weight. Scoring below 83 SCA, they exhibit muted acidity, earthy or fermented notes, and hints of dried fruit or cocoa, with a heavier, sometimes uneven body. Used in blends or budget roasts, MH/ML offers a rustic, less vibrant Kenyan profile.
